Join our campaign to fight against unaffordable housing

Rent in Oxford is too high and it keeps on going up. In Oxford, the number of households facing the threat of homelessness doubled from January – March 2025. The average monthly rent in Oxford increased by a staggering 11.5% in the 12 months to July 2025. Oxford has the highest average rent outside of London.

Renter’s rights have changed. With the introduction of the Renters’ Rights Act, we can no longer be evicted without reason. If you want to know what else has changed, click here.

By challenging a rent increase at the ‘Rent Tribunal’ you can fight to keep your rent lower.

The tribunal will decide whether your rent increases and if so by how much, based on the “market rate” for your property in your area.

Our goal is to freeze rents and lower the market rate for all Oxford renters.

Renters who challenge increases save £1,140 per year on average.

Rent tribunals save you money even if you lose

Even if your appeal is unsuccessful, you delay the rent increase until the tribunal’s decision, with current estimates for this at 5-6 months from the date of appeal.

The more people that take cases to the tribunal, the slower it will be for everyone, and the longer you will pay the lower rent.

Even if you think you can afford the rent increase. Even if your proposed rent increase is minimal. Resist. Resist on principal. Resist for the others in your community who can barely afford their groceries. Resist because landlords simply do not need and do not deserve another pay rise by leeching off of our hard work. Our labour should not be their pocket money.

We have joined up with an exciting national campaign, Resist Rent Rises, in collaboration with London Renters’ Union, Greater Manchester Tenants’ Union and other tenants’ unions across the country.
